Alternative Energy As a user and proponent of alternative energy I have been very interested to see the many ads, articles, and editorials in the paper recently. We certainly need to explore all our options to decrease our dependence on foreign oil and fossil fuels. However, I find the thought of having scores of humungous industrial wind turbines scattered throughout the upper Saint John Valley disturbing. Like most people, what I have heard so far is mostly rumors. There are no specific proposals, and we are told development will not take place for many years. But I am concerned that one day soon we will be presented, like the people of Mars Hill, with a fait accompli. I believe that now is the time to talk about and act on our ideas for all aspects of alternative energy development. I support development of local moratoria/regulations/ordinances that reflect these ideas. I believe this should be done soon to protect our rights to local control. Alternative energy comes in many shapes and sizes. Multinational energy companies have a lot to offer. Yes, we should be talking to them. But should we trust them? Je pense pas.
